My Coolest Interview (Literally!) with the Street Basketball Legend, Rico Lubis!

Interview with Street Basketball Legend Rico Lubis - Zazi Landman - Asian Snowboard Girl from Indonesia

Hey, peops! Your girl Zazi is back with another story that’s got me buzzing like a snowboard on fresh powder! You know how I’m always chasing those snowy dreams of becoming the first Indonesian snowboarder at the Winter Olympics? Well, sometimes, the universe (and Foot Locker SEA, bless their stylish hearts!) sends you the coolest people to chat about it with.

And by “coolest people,” I mean THE Rico Lubis! Yes, that Rico Lubis. If you don’t know him, you’re seriously missing out. This guy is not just an entrepreneur and a content creator; he’s a four-time National Streetball Champion! Like, seriously, a legend on the court, known as “Spinboy.” Can you imagine his moves? I bet he could do a triple cork with a basketball. Okay, maybe not, but you get the vibe! He’s also the genius behind the super cool streetwear brand “Reto” and basically a creative mastermind in the urban culture scene. This man knows cool.

So, Foot Locker SEA, who I just had the absolute blast collaborating with on their ‘Class of Cool’ back-to-school campaign (seriously, if you haven’t seen it, go check it out – https://www.instagram.com/reel/DLZZRTHyJRu/ ), set up this epic interview. And where did it happen? At the super awesome Foot Locker flagship store in Mall Kota Kasablanka in South Jakarta. The vibes in that store are just slay queen!

Walking in, I was a tiny bit nervous, like when you’re about to drop into a really steep run. But the moment Rico started talking, all that melted away faster than snow in the Jakarta sun. He was seriously so cool and SO funny! We were laughing, joking, and just having the best time. It felt less like an interview and more like a super chill hang-out session with a really inspiring big bro.

He asked me all about my Olympic dreams – you know, the whole “first Indonesian snowboarder at the Winter Olympics” mission. It was so refreshing to talk to someone who genuinely got the passion and the grind behind it. We chatted about where I grew up (spoiler: not on a mountain, obviously, but that hasn’t stopped me!), what drives me to push boundaries, and all the crazy adventures I’ve had chasing snow around the globe.

Rico totally understood the “dream big, work hard, and make it happen” mentality. He’s proof of it himself, going from dominating streetball courts to building a successful entrepreneurial empire. He’s all about creating unique things, not just following trends – which is exactly what I aspire to do with my snowboarding. He’s got this infectious energy that makes you feel like, “Yeah, anything IS possible!”

It was such a blast just trading stories and insights. He’s got this natural wit and an easygoing charm that made the whole experience incredibly memorable. And being interviewed by someone who has achieved so much in his own unique way, but is still so down-to-earth and encouraging? That’s gold right there.

So, huge thanks to Rico Lubis for being such a cool dude and for giving me such a fun interview. And massive props to Foot Locker SEA for arranging this epic meet-up and for believing in the ‘Class of Cool’!

Keep shredding those dreams, Zazi-nators! And remember, whether you’re on a board, on a court, or just rocking your unique style, always be part of ‘The Class of Cool’!

Zazi out!
